BARBARA PASSERO, director of SandpiperCREATIVE, is a transplant from northern Ohio. Barbara fell in love with Boston while on a visit over 30 years ago, and she's been happy to live near the ocean ever since. Her love of the small, quick-moving shorebirds led to naming her company SandpiperCREATIVE.
Barbara has a B.A. degree in English from Hiram College and an M.L.S. degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. She has taken courses in graphic design, publications management, and business management. Barbara writes for local newspapers on the subjects of energy and the environment. She researched and edited Opposing Viewpoints: Energy Resources, which was published in fall 2006 by Greenhaven Press.
Barbara has a career-long enthusiasm for promoting effective exchange of information between people and institutions. Her exceptional communications expertise helps clients in developing and managing their print and electronic communications projects. When organizing and coordinating public events for her clients, Barbara ensures that the client's accomplishments and programs are showcased to their best advantage.

Barbara is a town meeting member in Belmont and member of the Cambridge Academic Editors Network and the Editorial Freelancers Association. Barbara's hobbies are walking, nature study, ballroom dancing, photography, and cycling, and her passion is protecting the natural environment.
Barbara is secretary of the Uplands Alternative Group, which was reorganized in March 2006. Collaborating with other state and local agencies and groups, she is working to preserve a silver maple forest in her town of Belmont from inappropriate development. She organizes meetings and workshops, writes newsletters, researches topics of interest, disseminates information to the media, and develops website content. Furthermore, she works with Belmont High School Environmental Club members, and writes newspaper articles.
In October 2006, the group held a meeting with the Winn Brook Neighborhood Coalition to provide information to the public. Several Massachusetts representatives attended along with about 50 residents of Belmont, Arlington, and Cambridge.
